Report From US500

This had to be one of the strangest wind days we have ever had in Long Beach. At noon it was overcast, very hazy and cool but the wind was already a sailable 15kts and building. By the 1:00 skippers meeting the wind was up to 18-20 knots and the sand was flying. So everybody was rigging 9.0 or 10.0. But the wind gods were just messing with us, by the time every body was ready the wind had backed off to 12-15kts and we went racing. We got the one race off and had to wait for Gabor to get rescued, equipment failure, and rig another sail as were a few other people. By the time we were all ready the wind was gone...I mean completely gone...glass. We sat around on the beach until 4:15 at which time wind started to show up from the NW...side off. Then it shifted to the S then it came back to the NW and came in 4-18kts and very gusty. At this point racing was called.
