June 18, 2005 SoCalCup Long Beach Report From US500 Well after all the trash talking that was going on the internet on Friday the wind gods got the hint that we desperately needed some race wind and blessed us with a good thermal day with winds ranging from 12-14 kts in the first race to 14-18kts in the last race. As usual Devon was well in control of this fleet and we, as a fleet, were pleased to contribute to his wining ways this year. Hopefully our small contribution here will enhance his standing with his sponsors, not that he really needs it. It was great to see so many guys from SD make the journey and to actually get some wind for a change. In the first race Lasse show us great sportsmanship by stopping to help a racer with a broken part. We gave him redress based on his results for the rest of the day. For this regatta we tried a timed start without a committee boat and it seemed to go well although in the future we will have to institute an over early warning system. It was also nice to see Peter G come out from under his desk to join us. Another surprise visitor was Hiener, hopeful we will see more of these guys on a regular basis. In that same vein, this was James S's first So Cal Cup race - welcome!! That's all for this month, praying for more wind Joe R |
